Police have appealed to the people to remain vigilant and maintain calm.
"Over 30 cases of mysterious braid-cutting have been reported so far with the police, while preliminary investigations are being conducted," a senior police official here said.
He said yesterday three fresh cases in Gho-Manssan and Muthi areas of Jammu and one in village Patrara of Sunderbani, district Rajouri were reported.
"Police is working on different theories to crack the case," he added.
He, however, said the first incident was reported in Rajasthan in June, Haryana, Himachal and western UP too came up with such reports.
"We have sent the samples of hair cut to the forensic laboratory," said the police official, adding, " we have appealed to the people to maintain calm and do not panic."
According to sources, the Jammu based Forensic Science Laboratory, has failed to come up with a breakthrough into the case and have sent the samples to the Srinagar FSL and outside the state.
"The experts carried out tests for around one-week in Jammu but found no cause of the phenomenon," sources added following which the samples have been sent to other Forensic Science Laboratories.
"In most of the cases, the women fall unconscious and thereafter find their hair/braid chopped off mysteriously," police sources said.
Nearly 10 women were also admitted to the hospitals after falling unconscious and provided the treatment. UNI
