SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 29: A quiz
completion to select students for World Space Week celebrations scheduled at
National Remote Sensing Centre, Department of Space, Hyderabad from
October 4 to 10, 2017 was held here today.
The awareness-cum-painting and quiz competition was organized by the
Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing in collaboration with
the Regional Remote Sensing Centre- North, Department of Space, Government of
India in which students from various schools participated.
The World Space Week is celebrated world over since 1999 when the United
Nations General Assembly declared it to be celebrated to highlight the Science
and Technology particularly Space Exploration Missions in the World.
The event was presided over by Commissioner Secretary Forest,
Environment& Ecology, Mohammad Afzal Bhat, Director Ecology, Environment
& Remote Sensing, O.P. Sharma and other concerned were present on the
occasion.
Dr. Aakash Goyal, Scientist, ISRO highlighted the various Space Missions
of the country and the strides made in various application areas. Humayun
Rashid, Scientist at DEERS and coordinator of the event highlighted the
importance and objectives of organizing the Space Week Celebrations.
The team from Government Girls Higher Secondary School Amirakadal was
selected for participating at the national event in Hyderabad. Certificates of
participation and trophies were awarded to the participating school children.
Later, Commissioner Secretary inspected the State spatial data infra under
construction building at the campus and expressed his satisfaction over the
pace of work. He also visited the Remote Sensing & GIS Labs of the
Department and interacted with the Scientists there.
The event was also attended by senior officers of the Department
including Zahoor Ahmad, Dr. Tasneem Keng, GH Mir, Akhtar Ali, Noorul Amin
Malik, and Majid Farooq.
