SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 19: Director
School Education Kashmir (DSEK), G N Itoo today inaugurated a five-day
workshop on review of textbooks and upgradation of curriculum in the Education
Department at the State Institute of Education Kashmir.
The workshop is aimed at reviewing syllabi and course of studies in
schools so as to make it at par with the global demands and requirements of
education.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by a galaxy of subject experts and
Officers of the Department. Director Academics JKBOSE Dr. Farooq Ahmad Peer and
Joint Director Trainings (Principal SIE) Mehboob Hussain were present on the
occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, DSEK stressed on the need to review the
syllabi and quality of textbooks from time to time so that it comes to the
expectations of 21st Century global educational scenario. He said that this
type of workshop should be a regular feature according to a calendar of
activities that will be issued by the Department in consultation with the Board
of School Education.
He said the subject experts have a bigger responsibility of taking a
review of the quality of textbooks frequently and give their suggestions to the
Department.
He said the workshop to review the textbooks is being conducted on the
basis of the feedback received from the students and academicians.
Principal SIE Kashmir said that this is the first phase of such
workshops which shall cater to the upgradation and review of primary and upper
primary level syllabi and textbooks while as in next phase, textbooks and
curriculum of secondary and higher secondary level shall be reviewed.
Director Academics assured every type of support from the BOSE in
conducting such type of workshops.
Subject experts on every subject from the field have been invited to the
workshop to recommend changes in the curriculum and the quality of textbooks to
the Government.
