GHSS Kothibagh celebrates 51st
International Literacy Day
SRINAGAR
SEPTEMBER 8: Government Girls Higher Secondary
School, Kothibagh Srinagar today celebrated 51st International Literacy
Day (ILD) as Saakshar Bharat Mission (SBM) with special emphasis on "Adult
Education in J&K" in collaboration with State Literacy Mission
Authority (SLMA) SBM, J&K at Auditorium of the school.
The Programme was formulated with the objective of achieving 80 percent
literacy level at national level, by focusing on adult women literacy seeking
to reduce the gap between male and female literacy to not more than 10
percentage points. It has four broader objective, namely imparting functional
literacy and numeracy to non-literates, acquiring equivalency to formal
educational system, imparting relevant skill development programme and promote
a leaning society by providing opportunities for continuing education.
On the occasion, Secretary School Education, Farooq Ahmed Shah was the Chief
Guest and said that the Government has taken all adequate steps to upgrade the
education standard to increase literacy rate in the State. He said that the
present literacy ratio in the State is 67 percent and our mission is to achieve
100 percent literacy in Jammu & Kashmir.
He said that the our aim to further promote and strengthen adult education,
especially of women by extending educational options to those adult who have
been last the opportunity of access to formal education and crossed the
standard age for receiving such education, now feel a need for learning of any
type including, literacy, basic education (equivalency to formal
education, vocational education( skill Development), physical and emotional
development, practical arts applied science, sports and recreation.
Secretary lauded the efforts of the Principal of the School and Organizer of
the programme to organize such function for the upliftment of the society by
providing quality education and asked to organized such more and more functions
and seminars to promote education sector as per need of the present time.
Mr Farooq Shah also distributed the trophies and mementos among the students
who have participated and bring excellent job in the sports sector including
cricket, volleyball, badminton etc. He said that need of the hours to take
serious efforts to achieve the goal to boost social and economic development in
the State.
Director School Education, Kashmir Dr G N Itoo, Joint Director (SLMA) T Dolkar,
State Coordinators, (SLMA) Syed Imran, Manmeet Bali, I/C SBM Srinagar, Nazir A
Sofi, Principal, GGHSS, Kothibagh, Romina Qazi, Lectures, Teachers, a larger
numbers of students and spectators were also present in the
function.
