New
Delhi, Sept 28: Flaying the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for
revising the metro fares in less than six months, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal on Thursday said the decision was 'anti-people' and would burden the
common man further. Taking to social microblogging site Twitter, Mr Kejriwal
said 'The Metro fare hike is anti-people. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has
been directed to find a solution to prevent hike in metro fares within a week'.
The DMRC has decided to hike the fares of Delhi Metro from October 1, maximum
by Rs 10. However, the usual discount of 10 per cent will still be levied on
passengers using metro cards, and there will be no change in fare for the
Airport Express. There will be an additional 10 per cent discount for
passengers commuting during non-peak hours, and there will be special discounts
during holidays and Sundays, which was introduced during the last hike. The
fares were earlier hiked in May this year. The minimum fare then was hiked from
Rs 8 to Rs 10, whereas the maximum fare was hiked from Rs 30 to Rs 50. UNI
