New
Delhi, Sept 5: A day after taking over the Water Ministry from Rajinder
Gautam, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today visited various Sewage Treatment
Plants (STPs) across Delhi and took stock of their workings. The Chief Minister
visited STPs located at Nehru Park and Satya Sadan here. Later, Mr Kejriwal in
a tweet announced that small STPs in large numbers controlled by locals will be
set up across Delhi to treat sewage and recharge groundwater at minimal cost.
Mr Kejriwal last evening had convened a meeting of the senior officers of the
Delhi Jal Board and issued various directions including furnishing a report on
timing of water supply in every colony, the duration of supply and problems
faced – including water contamination. He also asked to furnish details within
a week of how much water is actually reaching the consumers and the difference
between water generated and supplied to consumers. For the Water Ministry, this
was the third change after Kapil Mishra was removed from the post a few months
ago. UNI
