Delhi, Sep 19: The Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI)
today accused RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of attacking
academic spaces in various Universities across the country. "NSUI has
always believed that a University is for debate and discussion, and tried to
promote it. This act, upset the ruling establishment (BJP) time and again, and
they have continued to push down their RSS agenda of saffronising the
institutions in the past three years," the Congress backed students wing
said in a statement here today. The NSUI said that it had seen how the events
across the campuses of IIT Madras and Jamia Millia Islamia (University) were
cancelled at the last moment at the behest of the ABVP. "We won't accept this
dictatorial mindset and allow the discussion and debate spaces available to be
attacked by ABVP. We will continue to promote it in University campuses,"
it said. The Congress's students wing also said that it would stand for the
student’s right for freedom of speech and expression in varsity campuses and
other academic institutions. UNI
