New Delhi, Sep 1: Citing the three-year low GDP growth of 5 point 7 per cent, the Congress today lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ridiculing former prime minister Manmohan Singh who had warned of the adverse impact of demonetisation on economic growth. The Opposition party demanded that the Modi government issue a white paper on the economic situation in the country and release the GDP figures of the last 10 years to bring out the truth. ‘’The GDP growth has been slowing down since the last six quarters, but Prime Minister Modi does not stop claiming that India is the fastest growing economy,’’ senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said at a news conference here. The problem with the present NDA government was that all decisions were being taken by one man, who spends crores on his publicity, he said. ‘’Earlier in the UPA we had an ‘arthshastri’ (economist) as Prime Minister and today we have a ‘pracharshastri' (propagandist) as Prime Minister,’’ Mr Sharma said. In fact, he said the fall in the GDP is 4.3 per cent if we go by the methodology of the UPA, and so that total fall would be by two per cent, which was going to cause severe loss to the economy, he said, adding that the fiscal deficit had reached 92 per cent while there were still seven month to go in this financial year. The Congress leader also said the FDI had fallen by seven per cent and credit to the industry was lowest in the last 63 years. ‘’The Prime Minister had betrayed the nation and his government had been proved incapable of running the nation,’’ he said. He said the amazing and amusing things were that the Finance Minister all through these months continued to paint rosy picture of the economy.  UNI
