Sept 19: In a series of high-level diplomatic engagements, External
Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met with Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasina of
Bangladesh and Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan. According to the official sources, Ms
Swaraj also met five Foreign Ministers of different countries in interactions
that mostly focused on bilateral and economic issues. The controversial Doklam
did not figure in talks, while both Ms Swaraj and her Bhutanese counterpart
discussed development projects that India was sponsoring. Ms Swaraj also attended
US President Donald Trump's summit on reforming the UN. The deliberations
between Ms Swaraj and the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh were also
"bilateral", sources said. The External Affairs Minister also held
meetings with Foreign Ministers Khemaies Jhinaoui of Tunisia, Anders Samuelsen
of Denmark, Edgars Rinkevics of Latvia and Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the
UAE. Ms Swaraj also met Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa of
Bahrain. "Great meeting with Indian FM @SushmaSwaraj on cooperation in IT,
culture, education and mutual support in international organizations,"
Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics of Latvia said in a tweet. UNI
