Kakinada,
Sep 1: Repeating the Nandyal Assembly byelection trend few days ago, the
ruling Telugu Desam party (TDP) today virtually swept the Kakinada Municipal
Corporation Poll by winning 32 seats as against the total 48 seats for which
election were held. District Election authority and Collector Kartikeya Mishra
has declared that the TDP has won in 32 seats, its ally BJP 3 seats, YSRCP 10
and Independents 3. Under the seats sharing arrangement, the TDP has contested
in 39 divisions while its ally BJP in 9 divisions. Of the total 50 divisions in
the corporation, election was conducted only for 48 divisions as election in
the other two divisions was put off following court orders. The YSRCP has
contested all the 48 divisions but won in only 10 places. BJP District
President Y Malakondaiah who contested from 9th division lost to YSRCP
Candidate Kampara Ramesh who won the seat with a majority of nearly 1000 votes.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took the Municipal
Corporation Election as prestigious and deputed all its Ministers to campaign
vigorously. Civil Supplies Minister Prattipati Pullarao was given the
responsibility of conducting electioneering and he was here camping along with
others for the past fortnight. Interestingly, the Telugu Desam was able to
capture power in the Kakinada Municipal Corporation after waiting for nearly
three decades. UNI
