Delhi, Sept 29: Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah on Friday
said terror groups were posing a great threat to all countries in the region,
including Afghanistan. Dr Abdullah said his country was facing some serious
challenges in maintaining relations with Pakistan. "In our (Afghanistan's)
relations with Pakistan we have some serious challenges," he said.
"There are groups which are threatening the security of Afghanistan. It is
a big challenge for the whole region," he said in his address at the
Indian Council of World Affairs here. Dr Abdullah Abdullah said his country
wanted to have good relations will nations. He also acknowledged the support of
India and the international community to his country which has been ravaged by
years of armed insurgency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met the
visiting Chief Executive of Afghanistan Dr Abdullah Abdullah here. During their
meeting, both leaders discussed issues pertaining to enhancing the bilateral
economic and development cooperation between the two countries and said there
were "abundant opportunities" in this area. According to MEA
statement, Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to Dr Abdullah, who is in
India on a two-day working visit. "Both leaders reaffirmed the strength
and closeness of the multifaceted strategic partnership between India and
Afghanistan. They welcomed the accelerated cooperation, including through the
recent announcement of a New Development Partnership during the meeting of the
bilateral Strategic Partnership Council in New Delhi," the statement said.
Both sides discussed enhancing bilateral economic and development cooperation
and the abundant opportunities in this regard. An MoU for Technical Cooperation
on Police Training and Development was exchanged in the presence of the two
leaders at the conclusion of the meeting on Thursday. UNI
