Oct 28: Seven people, all women, were killed and six others suffered
injuries when the Appi (big) auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a
speeding tipper near Chitturivaripalem village between Modekurru and
Golakotivaripalem under Kothapet police station limits in Konaseema region ,70
kms from here in the early hours of Saturday. The ill-fated auto was taking
them from Allavaram to Venkateswera swamy temple in Vadapalli while the
tipper-laden with Blackstone was on its way from Pagidi in Anantapur to
Amalapuram town. The victims, all relatives, had left home early for offering
special prayers at the temple. Police sources said that five women were killed
on the spot and two others succumbed to injuries at the KIMS hospital in
Amalapuram a little later. The condition of two other women is also stated to
be critical. A two-year-old baby had a miraculous escape without any injury. On
hearing about the incident, the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Home
Nimmakayala Chinarajappa has cancelled his scheduled trip to Hyderabad and left
for the accident spot along with the SP Vishal Gunni. He has instructed the
hospital doctors to render better medical aid to the injured and asked the
revenue and police authorities to arrange for shifting of the dead bodies after
post-mortem to their village. UNI
