Srinagar, Oct 2: In a first, a skills training centre has been launched to professionally train inmates in fields such as handicrafts, electrical service and computers at Central Jail Srinagar.
      Director General of Prisons S K Mishra, who today inaugurated the skills training centre for jail inmates at Central Jail Srinagar, said that soon similar kind of centres will be established in rest of other jails, including Kot Balwal in the State.
      The skills training centre has been established by Prisons Department in collaboration with Art of Living Organization. 
      “The idea behind the setting up of training centres at different jails is to professionally train inmates in fields such as handicrafts, electrical service, computers etc,” DGP Mishra said.
      He said such a step and skill training would reform and successfully reintegrate jail inmates into the society after they walk free from jail.
      The DGP Prisons said that reformation of inmates, followed by technological up-gradation of prison and staff development are the main areas of interest for the Department.
      He urged inmates to participate in training programmes and avail its benefits to the full so that they can contribute to the society after serving their respective jail terms.
      The inauguration of the centre was followed by a cleanliness campaign under Swach Bharat Abhiyan in which staff and inmates participated.
      “Similar cleanliness drives are being conducted in all jails today to support the nationwide sanitation drive,” the DGP said. UNI
