JAMMU, OCTOBER 06: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary convened a meeting of senior functionaries of the department of I & FC here today.
Taking depleting
water sources of River Chenab into consideration, the Minister directed the
officers to mobilize all the resources like draught stations, lift irrigation
schemes, tube wells and other irrigation systems to supplement the water
deficiency in Jammu region.
The Minister asked
the concerned officers to spread awareness among the public and farmers
regarding judicious use of water and appealed to the public to share the
available water amicably without any wastage.
Pertinently, due to
dry spell, the water sources of irrigation have depleted considerably to an
unprecedented low level affecting drawal of water in Ranbir Canal, New Pratap
Canal, Ranjan Canal and Pargwal Canal.
The Minister
directed proper distribution of water to stabilize the current situation. He
asked the officers to reallocate some proportion of water in distributaries
with adequate water level to other distributaries facing scarcity at the
moment.
Chief Engineer
I&FC, P.N Bali, S.E Hydraulic Jammu, K.K Magotra and Executive Engineers
attended the meeting.
