SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 07: Minister for Horticulture, Syed
Basharat Bukhari today visited Sopore to offer personal condolences to the
family of Late Atiqa Banoo.
Ms Atiqa Bano a noted educationist, heritage activist and former
Director, Education and Libraries, breathed her last earlier this week.
Syed Basharat Bukhari while recalling the contribution of Late Atiqa
Bano in preserving Kashmir's heritage and culture said that her contribution is
historic which would be very difficult to emulate. He said it was due to her
relentless efforts that led to the setting up of first of its kindMeeras
Mahal at Sopore which the deceased continued to supervise till her death.
The Minister also recalled the efforts of Atiqa Bano in the spread of
education in north Kashmir, particularly among women. He said she was the founder of Majlis-un-Nissa, the first ever women
exclusive educational organization in north Kashmir which
rendered yeoman's service for educational spread among the young girls of the area for which the late
educationist would be remembered for ever
The Minister also prayed for peace to the departed soul of late Atiqa
Bano and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
