Oct 31: The West Bengal Government has allotted fund worth more than Rs 50
crore to improve facilities at government and government-aided schools across
Bengal. The facilities include safe drinking water, additional classrooms,
boundary walls, etc. The break-up of the developmental activities is like Rs 39
crore 2 lakh 78 thousand for additional classrooms for 422 schools in Howrah,
Hooghly, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kolkata, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, North and
South 24 Parganas, Purulia, Siliguri, and Purba and Paschim Medinipur
districts. Rs 7 crore 52 lakh 82 thousand 800 has been allocated for additional
classrooms for 106 more schools in Alipurduar, Bankura, Birbhum, and Purba and
Paschim Bardhaman. These 528 schools in all include primary, upper primary,
secondary as well as higher secondary schools. Rs 4.25 lakh for safe drinking
water for 250 schools, including 120 primary and 130 upper primary schools. A
few more crores have been allotted for district-wise development projects for
schools. This is a major step in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s efforts to
improve the standard of schools in Bengal. UNI
