Shillong,
Oct 7: The ruling Congress in Meghalaya has suffered another jolt ahead of
the next year’s assembly elections with Health and Family Welfare Minister,
Roshan Warjri deciding not to contest the polls. Four Congress legislators
Rowell Lyngdoh, former Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, Sniawbhalang
Dhar (both former ministers) and Ngaitlang Dhar did not even applied for
Congress ticket to contest assembly elections. Mr Lyngdoh had already made his
announcement to contest the upcoming elections on National People’s Party
ticket from Mawkyrwat assembly constituency. In the meeting, the name of Legal
Advisor to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, W H D Syngkon, was
unanimously proposed to contest the Assembly elections from North Shillong
constituency. This is the second time that Ms Warjri had taken such a decision.
While representing Mawkhar constituency between 1998-2003, Ms Warjri decided
not to contest the 2003 Assembly elections. After a gap of ten years, she
decided to return to active politics by contesting on a Congress ticket during
the 2013 Assembly elections. UNI
