Diwali has come early due to decisions taken in GST Council: PM

Dwarka, Oct 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said Diwali has come early for the citizens of the country due to the decisions taken in Goods and Services Tax Council. Addressing a programme here, he said it was like Diwali yesterday when some important changes were made in the GST. 'Diwali has come early for our citizens due to the decisions taken in the GST Council. We had said we will study all aspects relating to GST for three months, including the shortcomings. And thus, the decisions were taken with consensus at the GST council,' he said. Giving a major relief to small traders, the GST Council had yesterday raised the composition scheme limit to Rs one crore from present Rs 75 lakh and announced bonanza for the exporters so that they could get their blocked capital in the tax net. The Council had also reduced the tax rates of 27 items paving the way for reduction in their price. UNI
