EC has authorised PM to announce date of Gujarat elections at his last rally:Chidambaram

New Delhi, Oct 20: Taking a jibe at the Election commission(EC) not announcing dates for Assembly Election in Gujarat along with Himachal Pradesh, senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday said EC has authorised PM to announce date of Gujarat elections at his last rally. In a series of tweets, Mr Chidambaram said, 'EC will be recalled from its extended holiday after Gujarat Govt has announced all concessions and freebies. EC has authorised PM to announce date of Gujarat elections at his last rally (and kindly keep EC informed).' The EC last week announced dates for Himachal assembly polls but did not announce that for Gujarat. The Congress has alleged that EC deferred announcement of dates for Gujarat assembly election under pressure from the Centre. They say that the deferment has been done to enable the Gujarat Government to announce several stops before announcement of the polls. UNI
