Oct 16: Normal life affected in Mandwai under Jirania sub-division in West
Tripura today with the dawn to dusk strike by tribal based Indigenous National
Party of Twipra (INPT) demanding CBI inquiry into the killing of TV journalist
Shantanu Bhowmik. INPT has also sit for mass stay-in-demonstration to press for
their demand. INPT presided Bijoy Kumar Hrankhwal said that Shantanu was
murdered in broad daylight in presence of police in a mysterious circumstance
but the state government and ruling CPI(M) have been most arrogantly denying
CBI probe when all other parties and organisations demanding for it. Shantanu
Bhowmik was killed in presence of the state police personnel and it is the
failure of state government and how the Special Investigation Team (SIT) under
the same police will ensure impartial investigation rather they would mislead
the case, he stated. “We have no faith on state police and we demand to hand
over the case immediately to CBI, as his father was also raised the same demand
along with others. So, the state government doesn’t have any right to overrule
the demand if they are not guilty,” Hrankhwal pointed out adding that it
appeared the state government was reluctant to find out the real cause of his
murder. He also alleged that the state government has given a cheque of Rs 10
lakh to the family of Shantanu Bhowmik. But the administration did nothing to
the poverty stricken family members of missing driver Jiban Debnath. “The party
will continue the agitation and if require move to court for impartial
investigation of Shantanu murder case. The state administration is utterly
failed to restore normalcy in the areas even after three weeks,” Hrankhwal
added. Meanwhile, the life in Mandwai and surrounding has not yet been
normalised since murder of Shantanu. The government offices and markets were
not functioning properly since then. No non-tribal traders have been going to
the villages and hardly tribals are coming to plain areas. UNI
