Pathankot,
Oct 2: Former Punjab Minister and senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia today
launched a scathing attack on the Congress candidate for Gurdapur Lok Sabha
bypoll Sunil Jakhar, putting forth a questionnaire seeking answers from him.
Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Kalia asked how much development took place in
Abohar when he was the MLA from there. “You were given an opportunity thrice by
the electorate of Abohar, what did you do for its development?” Cornering Mr
Jakhar over the issue of sand and gravel prices, Mr Kalia asked whether he is
satisfied with the prices that are prevalent. “As the then leader of the opposition
Sunil Jakhar never missed an opportunity to raise hue and cry over the prices
of sands and gravels. Why is he mum now when the prices of sand and gravel have
increased manifold during Congress regime?” On the mining scam, Mr Kalia asked
Mr Jakhar as to why he has chosen to remain silent. “The involvement of
relatives of a minister and 11 MLAs in mining contracts is an open secret. Does
Jakhar’s silence indicate a conflict of interest?” Mr Kalia also asked if he
agreed with the Haque panel report. “The report recommends rationalization of
power subsidy, especially for farmers owning more than 10 acres of agriculture
land. Is it not a backdoor attempt to levy power tariff on agriculture?” Taking
a dig at Jakhar over the issue of farm loan waiver, Kalia asked as to why he
did not impress upon the Congress government to issue the notification of farm
debt waiver before the imposition of code of conduct for Gurdaspur
parliamentary by-election. “It was in public domain that the Gurdaspur by-poll
would take place in the month of September-October, then why did not Jakhar act
fast?” he asked. UNI
