KISHTWAR, OCTOBER 13: District administration Kishtwar has initiated disciplinary action against 128 officials for unauthorized absence from duty. 
Special teams constituted by Deputy Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana, conducted surprise inspection of Government offices     during which 128 employees were found absent from their duty, while 9 offices were found locked.
Taking strong note of mass absenteeism, the Deputy Commissioner ordered a probe   and asked the concerned authorities to issue show cause notice to the erring officials.
Meanwhile, the District Treasury officer has been directed not to withdraw the salaries of absentee employees till further orders. However, in respect of the offices found locked, the concerned district officers have been asked to fix the responsibility on erring official and submit a report for further course of action.
During the inspection it was found that in some offices majority of the employees were shown on leave, for which separate enquiry is being conducted. The concerned DDOs have been asked to explain their position as to how they granted leave to such a large number employees on a given day, thereby impairing the function of the offices.
Similarly some employees were shown as deputed on duty in official record which is also being examined and verified.
The DDC warned concerned district officers of stern action if they failed to keep close vigil on day-to-day functioning of their departments.

Noting that a major change in the work culture of government offices is needed, concerned district officers were directed to take stock of each section periodically and take errant officials to task.
