Polling begins in Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency

Chandigarh, Oct 11: Polling began on Wednesday morning in the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency. The bypoll was necessitated as the seat had fallen vacant following the demise of actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna of the BJP in April. In the meanwhile, there are reports of sporadic incidents. The Congress party activists allegedly captured SAD booth in Gurdaspur constituency in Village Talwandi Bathungarh, while a Akali Dal’s block committee chairman was injured in the attack. Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema, spokesman Shiromani Akali Dal complained to SSP Gurdaspur that the "Congress goons" thrashed the samiti chairman in the village. The main fight is between Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Swarn Salaria, Congress' Sunil Kumar Jakhar, who is the Punjab Congress President, and Aam Aadmi Party's retired Major General Suresh Kumar Khajuria.
