Oct 7: The Youth Affairs and Sports Department of the West Bengal
Government has instituted the Khelashree Scheme to encourage sporting
activities. This is yet another developmental initiative by the Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress Government. As per the scheme, schools,
colleges and clubs of the state would be given five footballs each. Madhyamik
and Higher Secondary schools, High Madrasahs, colleges, universities, all clubs
from the first to the fifth divisions of the Kolkata League as well as all
clubs and sports institutions which have been getting annual financial aids
from the State Government would get these footballs. The footballs would be
distributed during a programme to be organised on October 9 and 10. To drive awareness
about this scheme and the programme, On October 7, colourful processions would
be taken out in all the districts. UNI
