Oct 9: Blue Whale menace has once again struck the southern town of
Belonia in Tripura as one more youth attempted to commit suicide in the process
of playing the game. He was shifted to the hospital with serious cut injuries,
police said here today. Earlier, one girl and a boy drew ‘blue whale’ piercing
and cutting her hands last month and still in the hospitals. According to
report, Santosh Debnath (26) attempted to commit suicide by cutting his
stomach. Married and father of one and half year old baby girl, Santosh hails
from Banshpadua near Belonia. He is now undergoing treatment at Belonia
Hospital under tight Police vigil. Interrogation revealed, Santosh started
playing the game 16 days ago after getting a link through his ‘Facebook’ account.
He completed all the rounds in 16 days and was asked by the administrators of
the game to commit suicide by jumping into a pond. According to Santosh, he
made several attempts to comply with the ‘instruction’ since October 6.
Earlier, Santosh bruised and cut his palms by tightly holding broken glasses as
was instructed by the game administrators. Finally, he cut his stomach
yesterday. His friends observed that Santosh behaved abnormally and kept an eye
on him and managed to prevent Santosh from committing suicide. Following his
erratic behaviour, friends of Santosh searched his mobile phone and found that
he was playing the deadly game. Debal Pal, a friend of Santosh, told
newspersons that his wife was not aware of the situation but felt his behaviour
was unusual but did not pay much heed. Last evening, Santosh’s friend informed
the matter to police and he was found with several cuts in the belly. Doctors
said Santosh received six stitches and was undergoing treatment at Belonia
