Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: The 10th KISS Humanitarian Award was today presented to Tibetan spiritual
leader and Nobel laureate Dalai Lama at a special function held at the
Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) campus here.
The Dalai Lama was the first Nobel laureate to receive the
KISS Humanitarian Award instituted in 2008 by KISS, a sister concern of KIIT
University to honour and recognize individuals with exceptional contribution to
the society and mankind. The Tibetan spiritual leader was conferred with the award in
the presence of several dignitaries and over 27,000 tribal children of KISS
University. Addressing the gathering, the Dalai Lama urged the students
to shun laziness and strive for the success and work hard with self-confidence
to achieve success in life. “You are the 21st century generation. You have lot of
opportunities and responsibilities,” Dalai Lama remarked. He called upon the youths to concentrate and give attention
on the ancient knowledge and utilize the mind to build a compassion in the
society stating that this was one of the most effective ways to eradicate
corruption in the society. The 14th Dalai Lama appreciated the contribution of KIIT and
KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta in providing free education to over 27,000
tribal children of the state.
