GMC Medical staff sensitized about ‘Earthquake preparedness
JAMMU NOV 03: An awareness programme to sensitize
the Medical staff about Earthquake Preparedness was today organized by the
Divisional Commissioner's office here at Government Medical College.
Alok Nanda, expert Disaster Management (Presidents Medal Awardee)
delivered an interactive lecture on Earthquake Preparedness and sensitization
of Medical staff.
He said that it is imperative to train the Medical and allied staff to
deal with situation arising in the eventuality of a disaster, particularly
earthquake.
The Government Medical College became the first health institution of
the state where a lecture on the subject was delivered by an expert of national
repute. The sensitization programme shall be taken subsequently to the District
Hospitals of Jammu Province and Community Health Centres.
The need of such sensitization and awareness programme was felt
considering the fact that the state of J&K falls in zone 4 and 5 of
earthquake prone areas.
The Programme was attended by the Principal &
Dean, GMC Jammu as Chief Guest, Head of the departments of various disciplines
of GMC, Faculty Members, Medical Superintendents and Dy. Medical
Superintendents of Government Medical College and its Associated Hospitals,
besides Nursing and Paramedical staff of this institution.
The Medical and Paramedical staff and other stakeholders of the
Directorate of Health Services, Jammu also participated in the programme.
