New Delhi, Nov 10: The Delhi government on Friday announced free service in all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, as well as cluster buses, for all commuters during the Odd-Even scheme, which will kick off on November 13 and continue till November 17.
Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot posted, 'To encourage use of public transport during Odd-Even, Delhi Government to allow free travel for commuters in all DTC and Cluster buses from 13-17 November.' Reacting to his Cabinet Minister's decision, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a tweet said the move will encourage people to switch to public transport. However, no decision has so far been taken on a proposal to reduce Metro fares which were hiked recently and is causing concern among the passengers.
In the wake of alarming rise in air pollution level in the national capital, the Aam Aadmi Party government had on Thursday announced roll out of the Odd-Even scheme for vehicles from November 13 till 17. The scheme, which had evoked major controversy in Delhi, had been tried in other cities of the world in the past, including Mexico, Paris, Bogota and Beijing. Under the scheme, vehicles with even and odd registration numbers, are allowed to ply on alternate days,
between 0800 hrs to 2000 hrs. UNI
