JAMMU, NOVEMBER 08: Terming
historic record as rich cultural & linguistic heritage, Advisor to Chief
Minister, Professor Amitabh Mattoo today called for taking concerted steps for
its preservation and restoration.
“The
records of archaeological characteristic is a treasure trove and act as a
medium to know our rich heritage” , Prof Amitabh Mattoo said as he visited
to State Achieves Repository, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Dogra Art Museum
and Jammu Kala Kendra.
During the visit, Prof Mattoo took stock of the repositories such as
political, army, revenue, home & other department’s records.
He also visited archives reference library & historical documents section
and received detailed information about the process for gaining access to this
treasure trove.
Prof. Mattoo commended the Department of Archives, Archaeology and
Museums for preserving the priceless treasure of State’s
heritage.
“Every
individual must contribute towards its preservation, so that this valued
heritage could be passed on to the next generation”, he
asserted”.
Stressing on using new technology for, Prof. Mattoo asked the concerned
to go for digitization of the archives to enable people across the world to
have easy access to the State’s history.
He also called for modernizing of the State Archives to make it a source
of attraction for the scholars, researchers and tourists.
“Archives
have become an important & reliable source of historical researches and it
is important that the Archives Department take required measures for
streamlining the entire spectrum of archival material”, he
asserted.
He said that the government was seeking international consultations for
maintaining and preserving the valuable archaeological remains and artifacts of
the state.
“Every
State has its own heritage to preserve and to be a part of the tourism sector,” he added.
Later, Prof. Mattoo also paid a visit to Jammu Philatelic Festival cum
Exhibition organized by Department of posts at Jammu Kala Kendra.
Prof. Matto was accompanied by Secretary, Department of Culture Dilshad
Khan, Director, Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Mohammad Shafi Zahid and
other senior functionaries of the concerned departments.
