New Delhi, Nov 13: In the wake of the alarming rise in air pollution, the Supreme Court agreed to hear on Monday itself a plea seeking a remedy for the problem in Delhi and the national capital region.
The plea filed by lawyer RK Kapoor was heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud. Mr Kapoor submitted that stubble burning in the capital’s neighbouring states like Punjab and Haryana and road dust had led to the creation of a deadly mix that was choking Delhiites. "We cannot ignore the pollution," the judges said and decided they will take up the plea after disposing off the matter listed for Monday.
Meanwhile, at the NGT, the Delhi Government on Monday did not file the review petition against the tribunal’s decision on odd-even. After the NGT objections over the Odd-Even scheme, the Delhi Government had last week deferred the plan to introduce the scheme from Monday and moved the green court again, requesting a review of its order.
