Agartala,
Nov 22: Acting under severe pressure from the journalist wing of the state, police arrested the TSR 2nd battalion
Commandant Tapan Debbarma this morning.
The killing of senior journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik on
Tuesday noon took place in West district part of the state of Tripura at R
K Nagar in the battalion camp. The accused commandant was produced before the court today. This perhaps came up after Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's
statement on the brutal murder of Bhowmik, and later vociferous demand of
the journalist wing for immediate arrest of the main culprit. However, a silent prossession joined by some hundreds of
journalists along with leaders, MLAs of different political parties and
others brought the body of the slain journalist to Agartala Press
Club from hospital where he was paid homage and later taken to his home for
performing the last rites prior to the cremation ground. This was the second such incident of journalist killing which
shook the entire state of Tripura and triggered serious panic among the
journalist wing here. Bhowmik was shot dead inside the camp of TSR 2nd battalion on Tuesday noon in presence of commandant Tapan Debbarma. The incident took place after the personal guard of
commandant identified as Nanda Gopal Reang shot him from point blank
range. UNI
