JAMMU, DECEMBER 7: Governor N.N. Vohra celebrated the Armed Forces
Flag Day at a function held at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Governor observed that the Armed Forces Flag Day is an important
occasion for remembering the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for
protecting the territorial integrity of the nation. He lauded the crucial role
of the Armed Forces, both during war and in peace time, and observed that their
sacrifices were founded in their bravery, devotion and dedication.
Sh. B.B. Vyas, Chief Secretary, Sh. Umang Narula, Principal
Secretary to Governor, Sh. R.K. Goyal, Principal Secretary Home, Brig. (Retd.)
Harcharan Singh, Director, Rajya Sainik Board; Maj. Gen. Sunita Kapoor (Retd.);
Col. Rawel Singh (Retd.) ZSWO; Hony Capt. Sansar Chand, MVC; Hav. Rashid Ahmad
(Retd.) SM; were the distinguished guests present on the
occasion.
The Governor urged the ex-Servicemen among his guests to promote
the interests of the society by offering their expertise and suggested to Maj.
Genl. Sunita Kapoor, who retired as Additional Director General Military
Nursing Services, to consider working for the improvement of health care of
women and children in the rural areas of the State. Governor also urged the
decorated soldiers Hony Capt. Sansar Chand, MVC, and Hav. Rashid Ahmad (Retd.),
SM, to train the willing youth, particularly girls, for equipping them to join
the Armed Forces.
Governor advised Brig. (Retd.) Harcharan Singh to vigorously
campaign in the government and private institutions for collecting
contributions for the Flag Day Fund throughout the year so that a large
corpus could be generated for carrying out welfare activities for the
ex-Servicemen and their families.
