Agartala, Dec 8: Tripura AIDS Control Society (TACS) has expressed serious concern over the growing incidences of HIV positive cases in North and Unokoti districts of the state over past few months. 
The report of the society indicated that the growth rate of AIDS in Northern part of Tripura recently appeared to be higher.
According to report, as many as 11 cases of HIV positive cases have been detected this month and it is apprehended that the figure would be multiple in bordering locations of Tripura along Mizoram and Assam.
“Though the annual figure of positive cases is showing a steady rise, the growth of cases in North Tripura indicated an alarming trend. In last financial year altogether 321 HIV positive cases were detected in Tripura including 31 intervene drug users and all are from North Tripura. But in last seven months the total figure recorded 161 where 19 drug users were from North Tripura,” the report stated.
The officials said in Tripura HIV was spreading through intervenes drug use and sexual transmission. Despite intensive action plan to contain the spread of the disease, the situation is aggravating every month. 
Tripura has detected 2264 cases so far in the state.
“We are able to deal with social stigma regarding HIV but yet to reach at comprehensive level to erase the social taboo like use of condom and to stop drug use,” said an official adding that two days ago a lady was thrown out from a tailoring firm after she was detected with HIV positive but within an hour TACS intervened into the case and reinstated her in job.
“ We compelled the management to suspend two ladies of the firm for two days as punishment who force the victims to leave the job,” the officials added. UNI
