New Delhi, Dec 29: The National Medical Commission Bill, 2017 that seeks to replace the Medical
Council of India (MCI) was on Friday introduced in the Lok Sabha brushing aside
objections from members from Congress party and a few from Trinamool Congress.
Allowing the tabling of the Bill, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan
said there is a "process" to oppose the introduction of the bills.
Among others, Congress floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge, Gaurav Gogoi and Jyotiraditya Scindia were up on their feet and wanted to have their say. Saugata Roy and Idris Ali both Trinamool Congress were also seen trying to make their point.
Speaker Ms Mahajan said, "....even to oppose introduction of a Bill there is a process....if necessary you can talk to N K Premachandran (RSP), he has done this so many times".
The new Bill would lead to the constitution of a National Medical Commission for development and regulation of all aspects relating to medical education, medical profession and medical institutions. There would be a Medical Advisory Council to advise and make recommendations to the Commission.
Some Opposition members said the Bill should be sent to a Standing Committee.
Introducing the Bill, Health Minister J P Nadda, however, said the Bill has been prepared based on the suggestions of a Parliamentary Committee. UNI
