New Delhi, Dec 18: As BJP heads towards a comfortable victory in the Gujarat Assembly polls,
Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Monday alleged that the ruling party's
victory was not actually the mandate of the people but due to the 'EVM'.
"When the whole Gujarat is against BJP and empty seats
were seen in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally, BJP's victory is due to the
'EVM', it's not people's mandate," Mr Nirupam tweeted.
Claiming that he had already apprehension on the functioning of 'EVM' and therefore he had asked the Congress leaders to be careful and said that the issue was a threat to democracy.
In Gujarat, the saffron party has won 22 seats, and the Congress 17 as per the Election Commission figures till 1430 hrs. The BJP is maintaining lead at 77 seats, and the Congress was ahead on 60 seats, as per the results and trends of counting of votes in the Assembly elections available at 1430 hrs. UNI
