Panaji, Dec 25: Christmas, the festival marking the birth of Jesus Christ, is being celebrated
with religious fervour, traditional gaiety and enthusiasm by the Christians in
Goa on Monday.
With the ringing of Church bells, the religious activities
began across the state with curch services, most of which started at 2300 hrs
last night.
Many churches in the state held outdoor services with night vigil. In some of the churches, the services concluded with the distribution of cake and coffee. After the midnight masses, members of the Christian community in the state dressed in best attire to match the occasion exchanged greetings among their friends and loved ones.
Cribs depicting scenes of the birth of Lord Jesus were put at Christian homes, Churches and Chapels in the state.
Large number of Goans staying abroad have come down to their home state to celebrate the festival with their families.
Governor Mridula Singha, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao and other political leaders have greeted people on the occasion. UNI
