Dec 23: The West Bengal Government has decided to increase by almost 2.5 times the amount of loans given by the
State Government’s cooperative banks to self-help groups (SHG).
The amount of loans given to SHGs during the last financial
year (2016-17) was Rs 572 crore, which will become Rs 1400 crore
during the current financial year (2017-18). This was announced recently by the State Cooperation Minister.
SHGs in the rural regions are often the drivers of village economies and hence the decision for closer collaboration between the Cooperation Department and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department, which looks after all aspects related to SHGs. UNI
