Delhi, Dec 2: The Delhi Medical Council (DMC) on Saturday said it will
examine the case of Max Hospital, where a newborn baby was declared dead but
was found alive later.
Delhi Medical Council's Registrar Girish Tyagi in a statement
here said the council after taking suo-moto cognisance of the incident has
decided to examine the case.The decision of DMC comes a day after Delhi Government ordered an inquiry into the matter.
On Friday, reacting on reports regarding negligence at the level of the Hospital located in Shalimar Bagh here, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said an inquiry has been initiated and a preliminary report will be submitted within 72 hours.
The Minister said that if situation arises, the Government will cancel license of the hospital for violation of rules.
Notably, Delhi Police had also registered a case against Max Hospital under section 308 IPC (attempt to commit culpable homicide) in connection with the case.
The infant was one of the twin babies, who were born prematurely on November 30 at the Max Hospital. One of them was stillborn, while another was kept on life support. Later, the parents were informed that the second baby had also died. The hospital authorities handed over the body in a plastic bag.
However, just before cremation, the family noticed some movement in 'the body' and to their surprise, they discovered that the baby was alive and was later admitted in another hospital here. UNI
