EC chief arrives in Meghalaya to assess poll preparation

Shillong, Dec 23: Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti arrived here today to oversee the preparation for Meghalaya Assembly elections scheduled to be held early next year.

Mr Joti was accompanied by his two commissioners Om Prakash Rawat and Sunil Arora on a two-day visit.
Today, the ECI team met leaders of various political parties, superintendent of police and deputy commissioner of eleven districts.
The ninth Meghalaya Assembly was constituted by the Election Commission on March 1, 2013 and its term will expire on March 6 next year.
Meghalaya is expected to vote for its tenth legislature, comprising 60 members, in February.
The Election Commission is expected to announce the election date for Meghalaya in January next year.
Meghalaya is currently ruled by the Congress. UNI
