Chennai, Dec 16: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was in a very critical condition when she was admitted to the hospital on September 22 last year, Apollo Hospitals Group Executive Chairman Dr Prathap C Reddy said on Saturday.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, he said Ms Jayalalithaa was admitted in a very critical condition.
He said he could not reveal more details as a probe was on by an one-man inquiry commission formed to go into the circumstances leading to her death.
He said a statement that she was suffering from fever was issued keeping in mind the law and order situation.
Dr Reddy said Ms Jayalalithaa was very close to everybody's heart and the doctors were advised not to disclose her exact health condition in a bid to not spread panic among the people.
'We were told Please don't say she is serious...We cannot control the People's emotions', he added. 
On Friday, Apollo Hospitals Vice-Chairperson Ms Preetha Reddy said people whom Jayalalithaa wanted to see were allowed to meet her during the former Chief Minister's hospital stay. 
Speaking to a TV channel on the sidelines of an event in New Delhi, she said Ms Jayalalithaa was brought to the hospital in a breathless condition. 
She recovered from it, but unfortunately we all know what happened,' she said.
Ms Jayalalithaa suffered a massive heart attack and was declared dead on the night of December five last year after 75 days of hospitalisation. UNI
