Bengaluru, Dec 26: Farmers agitating over sharing of Mahadayi river water have given for a day-long North Karnataka Bandh on Wednesday demanding taking up construction of Kalasa-Banduri Nala project.
Meanwhile, day and night agitation demanding an assurance from Lok Sabha member and BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa in front of 'Jaganath Bhavan'--the BJP State headquarters here, entered fourth day.
The agitators are demanding Mr Yeddyurappa to come to the venue and express his stand on the issue whether he can do it or not.
"When Mr Yeddyurappa had come to Hubballi he had promised to solve the issue before December 15, but till date there is no word from him and he has failed to keep up his promise. We are ready to withdraw the agitation here and chalkout future course of action if he (Mr Yeddyurappa) expresses his inability," a farmer leader told
newsmen at the agitation venue.
The Core Committee of the BJP which was to have met at the Party State headquarters here had to change the venue to Mr Yeddyurappa's residence due to ongoing agitation.
The State BJP President before the Core Committee meeting told newsmen that "the Congress was trying to malign him on Mahadayi issue instead of backing his efforts to solve the vexed issue."
More than 100 Farmers and pro-Kannada organisations have extended support to the Bandh call. JD(S) has also expressed its support to the Bandh call.
However, functioning of Hospitals, Medical Shops, plying of Ambulance and essential commodities were exempted from the Bandh to be held from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs.
The Bandh call was given for 11 taluks coming under three Districts of North Karnataka which are facing acute drinking water  shortage.
The agitators are alleging that both Karnataka Government and the Union government have failed to meet even basic need of supplying drinking water by approving the Mahadayi river water sharing issue which is pending for decades. UNI
