Kanyakumari,
Dec 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting at
cyclone Ockhi-ravaged Kanyakumari to review the relief operations and
interacted with the family members of some missing fishermen and farmers on
Tuesday.
After visiting cyclone-hit Lakshadweep in the morning, Mr
Modi reached Kanyakumari by an IAF helicopter here from Thiruvananthapuram at
1430 hours.He was received at the helipad on the Bharathi Guest House premises by Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswamy, his Deputy O.Panneerselvam and senior officials.
Soon after the arrival, Mr.Modi held a review meeting in the conference hall of the guest house in the presence of Governor, Chief Minister and other Senior officials.
After a detailed presentation by Mr Palaniswami on the devastation caused by the cyclone in Southern districts of Tamil Nadu, especially Kanyakumari, the Prime Minister heard the grievances of some of the affected fishermen families and farmers. He also received petitions from the affected people.
Late Mr Modi left for Thiruvananthapuram.
A three-tier security arrangement was made in and around the guest house in view of the Prime Minister’s visit. The Indian Coast Guard patrol crafts were deployed along the Kanyakumari coast and about 2,000 police personnel were pressed into service for bandobust duty.
Media was restricted from covering the review meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. As per instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), only 15 photographers and videographers were allowed inside the meeting hall for five minutes. UNI
