Ahmedabad,
Dec 9: After a report of EVMs glitches at some of polling stations in
Narmada and Rajkot districts, the Congress on Saturday said it’s the
responsibility of election commission to clear the doubts being raised by the
people.
Talking to reporters here, Senior Congress leader Rajiv
Shukla said, “Some of complaints have been raised at different places. I have
only to say that the onus goes on to the election commission to clear any
suspicions if arisen in the minds of voters and raised by the political
parties. The commission has to ensure that the polling must be conducted in
fair and transparent manner.”Earlier, expressing confidence on winning the Gujarat Assembly elections, Mr Shukla said, “We are hopeful that the Congress will form the government in the state. It is evident from seeing the way people are supporting us. Everywhere we have visited the people have said we want change and other party should also get a chance.”
Polling is underway on 89 seats for the first phase. The election for second phase will be held on December 14.
Congress General Secretary Ahmed Patel, who also hails from Gujarat raised the issue of EVM mal-functioning and said, “There are reports of EVM malfunctioning in several polling stations. Request the Election Commission to take necessary action immediately.”
Echoing the same sentiments over the party’s performance in the elections, Indian Youth Congress Spokesperson Amrish Ranjan Pandey told UNI, “We are winning the elections. There is under-current in favour of Congress. The people in the state do not like ill-governance of the BJP and they are looking for the change this time.” UNI
