New Delhi, Dec 28: BJP's Bhupinder Yadav on Thursday objected in the Rajya Sabha to Congress
president Rahul Gandhi ‘twisting’ the name of Leader of the House Arun Jaitley
in his tweet.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Mr Yadav
said that he had given notice under Rule 187 as the Congress president had
“twisted” the name of Leader of the House Arun Jaitley in a tweet.
“This comes under the category of privilege,” Mr Yadav said.
Mr Gandhi on Wednesday took a swipe at Mr Jaitley for his statement in Parliament that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had no intention to question the contribution and commitment to the nation of his predecessor Manmohan Singh and former vice-president M Hamid Ansari.
The Congress objected to the remarks made by Mr Yadav and demanded the name be expunged from the record.
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, however, said that any person not present in the House should not be named.
‘’No Member should take the name of person who is not present in the House and who cannot put up a defence against a charge or an allegation or an issue raised. That is the rule, which is very clear,' he said.
He said the name mentioned would not go on record.
The Chairman said an agreement between the Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition was reached yesterday after which normalcy was restored.
‘’Outside, people are feeling that Parliament is not doing its business, particularly Rajya Sabha, and Bills are not taken up. It is sending a wrong message. But, fortunately, with the initiative of the Leader of the House and that of the Leader of the Opposition and also with the cooperation of other Members, normalcy has come back. So, let us keep that in mind,’’the Chairman said. UNI
