Kolkata, Dec 19: To make the process of transplanting organs smoother in government hospitals, the West Bengal Health
Department is preparing a comprehensive set of data on the patients who are
in urgent need of organ transplantation.
The data will be available online for officials for quick
access.
Initially, information would be accessed from the patients in all the medical colleges and hospitals in Kolkata.
As a part of this effort, an organ transplantation department is being set up at the premier State Government-run super-speciality hospital, SSKM Hospital, on a pilot basis.
The model will be later applied on the medical colleges in the districts.
Once the State Health Department has comprehensive data on patients, it will make the entire procedure of organ transplantation more effective and the success rate of cadaver transplantation is expected to go up, believe Health Department officials. UNI
