KUPWARA, JANUARY 20: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jahangir, an anti-polythene drive was carried out across the district today during which scores of erring traders were penalized.
Several teams were constituted for carrying out the drive which were led by concerned Tehsildars/BDOs. During the course of the drive, the designated teams seized 55.5 kilograms of polythene besides recovering  Rs.17100 fine from erring traders who were found involved in keeping selling and using the illegal polythene carry bags.
Local trade union leaders, shopkeepers, street vendors, civil society members, NGOs, media fraternity has been urged to extend necessary cooperation to make Kupwara polythene free district.
