JAMMU, JANUARY 01: Director General of Police, Prisons S.K.
Mishra, today released the Departmental Calendar 2018, during a function held
at Prison Headquarters Amphalla Jammu.
The officers present on the occasion including Javid Masood
Fazili Sr. Superintendent Central Jail KotbhalwalJammu, Dinesh Sharma Sr.
Superintendent District Jail Jammu, HilalAhmad Rather
Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar, besides officers of PrisonsHeadquarters Dr.
Mohammad Sultan Lone DIG Prisons, SanjayKumar FA/CAO,
S.ABeig Staff Officer to DGP Prisons.
On the occasion, 2018 diaries, Newsletter of December,
2017 were released and distributed. The Newsletter will also
be circulated among outside agencies. The achievements of Jammu and Kashmir
Prisons Department during 2017 were highlighted on the occasion.
The Director general prisons said that a new District Jail
called as Special Jail (CorrectionalHome) at Pulwama got operational last
year wherein young offenders are lodged as a
target group forspecial programmes of correction.
Besides a new Jail building at Bhaderwah; new District Jail Kargil are under
construction and would be completed within short span of time.
It was also said that Jails have been enriched and security of jails have
been strengthened with the introduction and supply of modern security gadgets
like X-ray baggage scanners, DFMDs, Walkie-Talkie and up gradation
of CCTV surveillancesystem by way of installation of high-tech security
cameras at strategic points.
During the past year, the department has upgraded Female
Prisoner Block at District Jail Jammu and Central Jail Jammu
KB withbetter sanitary conditions.
The jail authorities have started Skill Development Centre for
training to Jail inmates at Central Jail Srinagar and District Jail Kishtwar
which have been started in collaboration with the NGOs.
The Department is Opening of Beauty Salon at District Jail Jammu
for imparting training to the female inmates by the Women
Polytechnic College Jammu. The Prison Training Institute named as
Institute ofCorrectional Services wasmade functionalat Mishriwalla
Jammu last year.
In addition to the above, the department has started
adult literacy programmes, Technical/Vocational programmes
including cutting and tailoring, motor winding, candle making,
weaving etc.
On the occasion it was said that 13 number of prisoners
have completed BA level education and
163 havepassed out different courses through special study
centres ofIGNOU available in the Jails.
During last year, Department conducted annual sports events in
all the Jails, leisure time activities and cultural programmes on the eve of
different festivals like Diwali, Eid etcorganized by the inmates
and also through outside agencies like Information Department.
Moreover, Stress Management Programmes like discussions,
Yoga, Meditation especially through Art of Living –
NGO arebeing held in most of the Jails.
The
“Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” isanother regular feature of the jail
authorities to ensure implementation ofcleanliness
