EC recommendation on 20 MLAs in 'Office of Profit' case : BJP, Cong demand Kejriwal's resignation

New Delhi, Jan 19: The Opposition BJP and Congress on Friday demanded the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after reports of the Election commission recommending disqualification of 20 AAm Aadmi party MLAs in the 'office of profit' case .

"Disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs is a huge moral defeat for Arvind Kejriwal. It has put his leadership in peril. He must resign on ethical grounds," Delhi BJP leader Vijender Gupta said in a tweet, reacting to reports in this regard.
Mr Gupta said that he would request the President for speedy approval in the case.
Claiming that Delhi is heading towards mid-term polls, the BJP MLA said, "the AAP government has much to answer to the public for their political impropriety."
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said that Mr Kejriwal has no right to continue as Chief Minister as the MLAs and his Ministers were enjoying perks of power.
"Kejriwal has no right to continue. Half of his cabinet ministers removed on corruption charges. Twenty MLAs who were enjoying ministerial perks would be disqualified! Where is Lokpal? The MLAs and Ministers enjoying perks of power and foreign travel-Where is political probity?," Mr Maken .
The poll panel earlier today held a marathon meeting to deliberate on the petition in the 'office of profit' case against the 20 AAP MLAs.
Though EC officials declined to say anything about the recommendations, Sources said the EC has recommended to President the disqualification of the 20 AAP MLAs.
In August 2017, the MLAs appealed to the Delhi High Court asking it to not allow the EC taking up the Delhi lawyer's petition. They argued that their appointments to the post of parliamentary secretary were already quashed, in 2016. UNI
