New Delhi, Jan 2: An outlay of Rs 25,061 crores has been made by the government for the modernisation of state police force, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
Responding to Kumari Shobha Karandlaje and Prathap Simha (both Bharatiya Janata Party) during Question Hour, Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said out of Rs 25,061 crores earmarked for three years from 2017 to 2020, a central budget outlay of Rs 18,636 crores has been already made.
Special provisions, Mr Ahir said, had been made under the scheme for internal security, law and order, women security, availability of modern weapons, mobility of police forces and logistic support. Moreover, central budget outlay of Rs 10,132 crores has been earmarked for internal security related expenditure for Jammu and Kashmir, north eastern states and Left Wing Extremism-hit provinces.
Answering questions, the MoS also said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is implementing the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems project with the objective to interlink all police stations for starting of crime and criminal data in an electronic eco-system.
"Secured data connectivity is already available at 14,363 police stations in various states," Mr Ahir said in response to a supplementary question from Mohammed Faizal (Nationalist Congress Party).
The Minister said 15,023 out of identified 15,580 police stations under the project are using CCTNS Core Application Software for the purpose of entering crime and criminal data. UNI
