New Delhi, Jan 9: Slamming the Delhi police for denying permission to the Gujarat MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani for holding a rally at Parliament Street here, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said that the latter should be allowed to speak.
"AAP believes that if an elected leader (Jignesh Mevani) wants to speak in the national capital, he should be allowed to do so," party spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj told reporters at a press conference here reacting to Delhi Police denial to grant permission to hold 'Hunkar Yuva Rally' rally citing National Green Tribunal’s order to ban protest in Jantar Mantar area.
Meanwhile, the Dalit leader along with other leaders including Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi, former JNU student leaders Shehla Rashid and Kanhaiya Kumar reached Parliament Street to address 'Yuva Hunkar Rally'.
The rally will highlight issues like--social justice, unemployment and atrocities against Dalits.
Delhi Police had earlier said that the permission was not granted in view of NGT orders and the organisers were advised to go to an alternate site, which they were refused to accept.UNI
